The research cluster “Communication in Health Professions Education (HPE)” builds interdisciplinary collaborations focused on professional communication. We examine and develop communication intensive curriculum designs and pedagogies, including models that promote a variety of approaches to reflective practice. We are interested in translational research in health communication investigating how evidence from health literacy studies can inform professional education programmes. We adopt complementary approaches to examine classroom and clinical interactions, provider and patient health literacy and healthcare experiences. Our health communications research in Hong Kong aims to develop situated, contextually rich understandings that contribute to locally relevant professional education initiatives and international research in the field. Our goal is to continue to develop and research programmes and professional development initiatives that meet the communication needs of healthcare professionals in the HKSAR.
